While I was saying farewell to a few of my seasonal faves, I found this coral dress that I hadn’t worn since last June.  I couldn’t bear the thought of waiting another year to wear it again, so I mixed it in with a few of my fall staples for one last floral hurrah.

august 2013 recap.

Skirt The Rules Blog; NYC fashion blogger; style blog; summer to fall transition outfits; August 2013one / two / three

Another month bites the dust.  This weekend may mark the end of summer, but the season feels like it’s been wrapping up all month long.  One look at my August outfits and you can tell that I’ve been dabbling in the fall palette.  Maroon, navy, and black are creeping back into my wardrobe.  I promise to hang onto as much color as I can, but it’s time to accept that fall is almost here!

in between.

Skirt The Rules Blog; NYC fashion blogger; style blog; fall outfit photo; Gentle Fawn Germain black sheer top; Express camel mini skirt; BaubleBar bronze geometric necklace; J.Crew square pave link bracelet; Tory Burch Robinson black satchel bag; Diane Von Furstenberg DVF April leopard calf hair pumpGuys, I’m so torn. I’m not ready for summer to be over, but I’m actually excited to trade in my brights ensembles for something a little simpler (go ahead and rub this in my face in six months).  I mean, they don’t call neutrals a classic for no reason — they look and feel effortless and timelessly sophisticated.  So while I’m stuck in between seasons, I’ll be sticking with lighter layers, but reaching for more subtle shades.

november neutrals.

Jenny in Jacquard; NYC fashion blogger; style blog; Pinterest inspiration; Pinspiration; how to wear neutrals in Fall 2012;

On most days, I’m the champion of all things colorful, but lately, I’ve really been gravitating towards neutrals (see yesterday’s evidence).  Mixing and matching requires very little effort — something which I am completely lacking in the morning before work.  Check out a few of these great neutral looks from my favorite bloggers.

leopard + oxblood.

Now that the cold weather is here to stay, my new uniform will probably consist of sweater dresses, leggings, and boots.  Don’t get me wrong, I love dressing up and getting creative with my closet.  But when it’s 7 in the morning, freezing, and barely light outside and I’m getting dressed for work, the only things I want to wear involve minimal effort.

Speaking of minimal effort — leopard and oxblood is such a no brainer combo.  So much so that Jess, Tracy and I unintentionally showed up to brunch on Sunday wearing variations of the look.  Stylish minds think alike, right?
